Education, not medical care

Dermatooh courses and articles are general health education about common skin, scalp and hair conditions. They are not medical advice, a diagnosis, a treatment plan or a prescription, and they are not a telemedicine service. They are written for a general audience and cannot take your individual health, history, medicines or circumstances into account.

Dermatooh is not a clinic and its author is not presented as a doctor, dermatologist, pharmacist or nurse. Nobody at Dermatooh examines you, looks at photos of your skin or scalp, answers medical questions or gives individual advice. Buying or reading a course does not create a doctor-patient relationship.

The courses are based on published patient information from recognised dermatology and health bodies. Medical knowledge changes, and while we review and update the courses, we cannot guarantee that every statement reflects the latest guidance on the day you read it.

See a doctor promptly if

• a rash spreads quickly, blisters, is very painful, or comes with fever or feeling unwell;
• skin looks infected: warmth, swelling, spreading redness, pus, crusting or red streaks;
• a mole or spot is new, changing in size, shape or colour, bleeding, itching or not healing;
• your eyes are affected: pain, light sensitivity, blurred vision or a red, gritty eye;
• hair falls out in patches, very suddenly, or with scalp pain, scarring or sores;
• your joints become painful, swollen or stiff alongside a skin condition;
• the person affected is a baby, a young child, pregnant or breastfeeding;
• a problem affects your sleep, your work or your mood, or does not improve after a few weeks of gentle care.

Emergencies. Swelling of the lips, tongue or throat, difficulty breathing, or a widespread rash with blistering or peeling skin are medical emergencies: call your local emergency number (112 in Portugal and the European Union). In Portugal you can also call the SNS 24 health line on 808 24 24 24.

Products and medicines

• Over-the-counter products are mentioned by their active ingredient, never by brand. We do not sell them and we receive nothing for mentioning them.
• Always read and follow the product label and the advice of your pharmacist. Patch test any new product first, as the courses explain.
• Prescription medicines are named only so you know what exists and can discuss it with your doctor. Never use a prescription medicine that was not prescribed to you.
• Ask your doctor, pharmacist or midwife before using any active ingredient if you are pregnant, trying to conceive or breastfeeding, and ask a pediatrician before using any on a child.
• Stop a product and seek advice if it causes burning, swelling, blistering or a reaction that does not settle.

No promised results

We do not promise clear skin, fewer flares, faded marks, regrowth of hair or any other result. Skin and hair conditions vary greatly between people, and many need medical treatment. The photographs on this website are stock images of models and do not show the results of any course.

Your responsibility

You decide how to use the information in the courses and which products to use. You are responsible for seeking medical care when the warning signs apply. To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for loss or damage resulting from the way you use the material. Nothing in this notice limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or the mandatory rights of consumers.
